Underrail for PC is a post-apocalyptic turn-based cRPG that draws heavily from titles like System Shock 2, Neverwinter Nights, and, especially, the first two installments in the Fallout series. This is the debut project of an independent studio Stygian Software. Story The game is set in the distant future, after a mysterious cataclysm that led to extinction of the greater part of the world's population and made the planet a place unfit for life. The remnants of the human race took refuge in the titular Underrail – a huge underground structure that was formerly a vast subway system, and has now become the last shelter for our dying race. Players takes on the role of one of the survivors. One day, his dull existence becomes much more interesting and dangerous, because the protagonist gets entangled in a conflict between the fractions inhabiting Underrail that compete for control over what may be the last hope of humanity. Gameplay The authors placed their bet on old and proven solutions. We view the action from the isometric perspective. Combat is implemented in a turn-based system and of deeply tactical nature. In battle we use traditional weapons, including firearms and melee weapons, as well as futuristic gadgets like energy shields and supernatural psychic abilities. The player character is described with a rich set of statistics, skills and perks, allowing for many different play styles and character builds. Technology The action takes place underground, but this does not imply a lack of variety in locations. Underrail for PC offers a large virtual world, where we can find entire towns, abandoned buildings, underground caves and a lot of secret locations. Most quests have several alternative solutions and the approach depends solely on our decision. In our adventures we also make use of a crafting system that allows us to create new items from various raw materials acquired during exploration.
