Shovel Knight: Showdown is another expansion for the warmly welcomed hybrid of platform game and RPG Shovel Knight. The expansion does not focus on a single story instead, it adds several new modes to the game, evoking associations with two-dimensional beat'em up games. The DLC is available as part of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove set or as a standalone product. Yacht Club Games studio is responsible for its creation. Mechanics Shovel Knight: Showdown is a significantly different game from both the base version of Shovel Knight and its previous add-ons. We are not dealing with a hybrid of platform and RPG games instead we get an unusual cross between a platformer and a fighting game, which can evoke associations with, among others, the Super Smash Bros series. The game consists of battles on two-dimensional arenas, with the use of key characters from the Shovel Knight, universe such as Shovel Knight, Shield Knight, Black Knight and The Enchantress. The list of available characters includes several heroes. You can also choose from several maps of course also referring to Shovel Knight. Game modes Shovel Knight: Showdown can be played solo or with others. We can choose between duels, training, free-for-all battles (for up to 4 players), cooperative clashes with AI, and even a story campaign, which resembles a bit classic Arcade modes in beat'em up games (we complete it with each character separately, learning a small part of the story associated with a given heroine or heroine).
