As a result of this event, catastrophic space-time anomalies occur in the world. Alternate realities begin to overlap, creating portals to other dimensions. The main characters fall into one of these portals, thus ending up in another world. Pretty soon it turns out that this dimension is a dystopia ruled by Doctor Nefarious. The heroes join forces with Rivet, a member of the resistance against the mad dictator. Together they decide to overthrow Nefarious, stop the anomalies and find their way back home. MechanicsThe core of Rift Apart gameplay remains unchanged. It is still a third-person shooter with platform game elements. While fighting opponents and exploring levels we gain bolts, which we can spend on new weapons. In line with the series' style, the player has a choice of many types of firearms, each drastically different from the others. We can use, among others, plasma pistol, double barrel, grenades or sprinklers turning enemies into plants. Apart from Ratchet, we'll also have the opportunity to control Rivet, who faces different levels and challenges on her way. The biggest change included in Rift Apart is the greatly increased mobility of the characters. Ratchet and Rivet have access to a double jump and an anchor that allows them to reach anchor points. Wall running has also been added to the game, as well as a burst during which the protagonists become invulnerable for a moment. In arenas, there are rifts in space-time that the player can use to teleport between specific locations and flank enemies. There are also boss battles where the protagonists fly through portals to other worlds, repeatedly changing the battle arena.
