Breaking Point Standalone, available on PC, is a survival sandbox set in the world after the outbreak of a zombie epidemic. It is also a stand-alone version of one of the most popular modifications to Arma III by Bohemia Interactive studio. After the success of the mod, the developers from the Canadian modder group BP Team decided to follow in the footsteps of the creators of the famous DayZ by creating an independent but much more complex version of the mod, without the limitations imposed by the original engine. Mechanics In terms of mechanics, Breaking Point Standalone is a sandbox survival simulator in which players have to face hordes of zombies. The essence of the game is, therefore, the survival aspects the player must take care of satisfying the basic needs of their character, such as hunger and thirst. The player can also obtain the necessary materials and use them to craft useful items and weapons. These, in turn, are necessary in case of close contact with brainless enemies and other dangers of the world. Compared to the original Breaking Point mod, the mechanics in its stand-alone version have been significantly developed and made more attractive. The game takes place on completely redesigned maps with an area of about 200 square km. The arsenal of available weapons has been increased, including not only firearms but also bows and crossbows. The strength parameter for individual weapons and objects has also been introduced. Thanks to the new system of classes, individual players receive specific roles during the game, which in turn prevents chaos on the servers. The whole is complemented by a much more complex system of development and personalization of characters. Game modes Like the original modification, Breaking Point Standalone focuses primarily on multiplayer gameplay. Each server can host up to 100 players at the same time (the production also has the option to use private servers). Unlike the original mod, the stand-alone version has a few different game modes including one for solo players. Technical aspects One of the main factors limiting the further development of Breaking Point mod were the capabilities of the Arma III's engine. The stand-alone version runs on Unreal Engine 4, thanks to which it was possible not only to create a better graphic design, supporting the DirectX 12 library but also to improve many elements of mechanics, such as collision system or bullet trajectory. Thanks to the capabilities of the new engine, Breaking Point Standalone is able to support VR/Track IR technology. Another important element of the game is the support for fan modifications, which players can share with each other through the Steam Workshop.
