Prepared by specialists in titles for mobile platforms, Sting Entertainment studio, Gungnir is a typical representative of the Japanese school of turn-based RPGs, the most important representatives of which are Final Fantasy Tactics iTactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. The title belongs to the Dept. Heaven series, which debuted on GameBoy Advance in 2002 as Riviera: The Promised Land. The plot of the game depicts the kingdom of Gargandy in 983. This world is inhabited by the Daltese and Leonica races. The latter is widely regarded as a curse and treated as worthless slaves. This state of affairs does not suit a group of young Leonikans who form a resistance movement called Esperanza. The scarcity and lack of financial resources and equipment means that the fight against tyranny is limited to ineffective and insignificant actions. One of the rebel leaders is the 15-year-old Julio. One day the hero rescues an unknown representative of Daltan's council, Alyssa, from oppression. Shortly afterwards, during one of the battles, a powerful demonic weapon, Gungnir, materializes just in front of him. Julio believes that this destiny and decides to use the weapon to overthrow the tyranny and free the oppressed confreres. The game system is compatible with the canon of the genre. Players carry out feature or side missions and, in the intervals between them, buy new equipment, choose character classes and recruit new soldiers. What distinguishes the title from other similar titles is the system of conducting clashes. During turn-based battles, the "Tactics Gauge" bar is displayed on the screen, which determines the battle skills of the Julio team. By using the points properly, players can strengthen their characters' attacks or influence the order of their enemies' and allies' moves. The authors also allowed the main character to summon demons from another world to support his team in battle. In addition, each soldier can learn specific skills in one of more than twenty different classes. The game world was created in 3D, although the characters living there are hand drawn sprites. The action is presented in isometric projection and resembles many other productions of this species. The authors presented the plot by means of animated inserts.
