Sands of Aura is an action RPG that takes from both hack'n'slash and souls-like genres. The game was developed by independent American studio Chashu Entertainment. Plot Sands of Aura takes us on a journey into the post-apocalyptic fantasy world. Years ago, a powerful spell got out of control and led the land of Talamhel to the edge of destruction. The old empires are gone, buried with tons of sand covering vast areas of land, creating an impassable, sandy ocean. From time to time, however, wind gusts reveal small islands hiding the ruins of an ancient civilisation. As we play, we take on the role of a character who, on board his sailing ship, travels from one such island to another, faces the dangers lurking there and tries to learn more about the past of this place. It is up to us whether she will listen to her guardian, Lawrence, or the whispers of a ghostly spirit named Aura, during her voyages. MechanicsIn Sands of Aura, we are travelling through an endless desert, looking for locations waiting to be visited. The islands which are exposed by the wind hide not only numerous ruins and secrets, but also various dangers. Dynamic battles with enemies are therefore an important part of the game, and we can eliminate enemies by making use of both different types of cold weapons and magic. Throughout the skirmishes, we have to show skill and reflexes, as well as perceptiveness. Defeating many adversaries requires recognizing the schemes of their attacks and discovering their weaknesses. As we progress, we find increasingly powerful murder tools. Additionally, each sword, hammer or spear consists of three components hilt, pommel and blade which can be modified to increase their combat potential and variety. While exploring the ruins buried in the sand, the action is observed from the top down view. Between the locations we sail on board our sailing ship, presented from a third person perspective (TPP). Technical aspectsGraphic design of Sands of Aura presents high quality. The whole thing is kept in a colourful but dark style, which is intensified by low-key lighting.
